Installation & Safety

Read this before you install or operate anything you bought from us. It explains what our instructions are, what they are not, and who is responsible for what.

Our instructions are educational. They are not a professional assessment.

We are a product manufacturer and retailer. Everything we provide — guides, videos, diagrams, drawings, and anything our support team tells you — is general educational information about our products. It is not electrical, structural, engineering, HVAC, medical or legal advice, and it is not an assessment of your specific site, system or building.

We are not licensed to provide electrical work, HVAC work, structural or mechanical engineering assessments, or medical advice. Where your installation involves any of those, it must be done by a licensed, insured professional in your jurisdiction.

CR Fence & Rail — railing and fence installation and safety

Improper installation of a railing or guard system can lead to failure of that system and serious injury. A guard is a life-safety component: it is the thing standing between a person and a fall, and it only works if it is attached to something that can hold it. Handling and cutting metal components also carries the ordinary risks of sharp edges and power tools — wear appropriate protective equipment.

Means and methods — you and your installer decide, not us

In no event does CR Fence & Rail Inc have responsibility for, control over, charge of, or liability for the means, methods, techniques, sequences or procedures of installation, or for safety precautions in connection with it. Those are the responsibility of the owner, the contractor and the installer.

Each installation site differs widely — the construction and condition of attachment points, the local building and safety code, and local practice. Our products meet the International Building Code (IBC) standard, but your local jurisdiction may have stricter requirements, and local code governs. We cannot consult on how to install in each individual instance — what we provide is general installation guidance. Our installation guidance describes ideal conditions, and there is no ideal installation in real life. There is no substitute for consulting a local licensed contractor, architect, engineer or code inspector; if you are unsure, we strongly recommend you hire a local, licensed installer or contractor.

Our hardware and tools are supplied as building material; they do not constitute the specific or final installation hardware for your site. Following our instructions does not by itself constitute proper installation. You and your installer must make the final on-site determination of the means and methods appropriate for your installation.

Your responsibilities

  • Hire licensed professionals for any work involving structural attachment you are not qualified to assess.
  • Meet your local code and obtain any permits your jurisdiction requires, before installation.
  • Verify compatibility of the mounting surface against the product's specifications before you begin.
  • Check your order before installation day. Verify all materials four or more days before installation; do a dry-run assembly to identify issues early; report anything missing or damaged immediately, so there is time to replace it; and make sure the installer is familiar with the product before the crew arrives. Our Missing, Damaged or Wrong Parts policy explains how we put a problem right, and it needs time to work.

Installer time and labour

Our responsibility is to provide complete, correct materials, and we keep sending what you need until your order is right. We do not cover installer labour costs — lost time, emergency site visits, rescheduling fees, or hourly rates where work cannot be completed. Arrangements with your installer are between you and your installer.

Almost every lost-time claim we see comes from a crew arriving at a site having never opened a box. That is preventable, and the preparation step above is how it is prevented.

Structuring an installer agreement. Require pre-installation verification as part of your installer's quote; separate verification time from installation time in the payment schedule; make the installer responsible for confirming they have everything needed before installation day; and consider agreeing consequences with your installer if they fail to verify materials in advance. Professional installers: factor verification time into your quote, review materials before bringing a crew, contact us during the verification window if anything is wrong, and do not take on an installation date that leaves no time to prepare.

If you disagree with how we have applied this policy, tell us — we will look at it. This policy does not affect any right you have under applicable law.

Risks you are accepting

Installing and using these products carries real risk; the specific risks for your product are described in the section above. Disconnect power before servicing anything electrical, follow the operating instructions supplied with the product, and wear appropriate protective equipment.

Indemnification and liability

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless CR Fence & Rail Inc, its officers, directors, employees and agents against claims arising from your installation or use of our products — including personal injury, property damage, damage to your building systems, and the cost of professional services needed to correct an installation. This does not extend to claims arising from our own negligence or from incorrect information we supplied.

For economic loss — lost income, loss of use, substitute goods, business interruption, and consequential property damage — our total liability is limited to the purchase price you paid for the product at issue. This limit does not apply to claims for personal injury, and nothing in this policy limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions; where that is so, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law permits.

Questions

Email us at [email protected] before you install or run anything, not after. We would much rather answer a question than replace a part.
