FAQs

General Installation FAQs

What is the actual height of the railings?

The actual height of our balusters is approximately 28 or 32 inches, depending on the variant.

Including the vertical clearance and top rail (With Top Rail variant), gives our products a nominal height of at least 36" for both variants, which allows it to pass safety standards for residential areas.

Are vinyl fences sturdy?

Yes, we’ve designed our vinyl fences to have a flexural strength of 57.2MPa — which means the maximum stress or pressure a material can withstand before breaking.

Do your Guard Rails come with posts and a handle top rail?

Yes. Unlike our Guard Rails which is only the baluster section of the railings, this Guard Rail Kit comes with one line post and a top rail (for the With Top Rail variant).

This kit will allow you to chain your Guard Rail Kits together or terminate it with our Guard Rail Kit Post.

Vinyl Fencing FAQs

Can I customize the width and height of my vinyl fence? Will this incur an additional cost?

Yes! The width of our vinyl fences are completely customizable. As for the height, these come in a maximum of 6’ but can be shortened to 3-5’ depending on your preference.

Please note that shortening the height of your fences will incur a small additional fee, which will be included on your quotation.

What can I expect from my custom quotation?

We provide quotations for vinyl fences on an itemized product basis for a clear breakdown of our pricing.

Please note that quotes are only estimates. These are not final until everything is built. In case you decide not to push through with your custom installation, you will be refunded your deposit.

How can I maintain and keep my vinyl fences clean?

Vinyl requires less upkeep and is easier to clean than other fencing materials. To clean your vinyl fence, you can use a hose or pressure washer.

We recommend washing your fence during the summer and winter months to prevent the buildup of mold.

Do vinyl fences become brittle in winter?

While vinyl fences become less flexible in cold weather conditions, it will not break or crack unless subjected to unusually severe impact.

Are vinyl fences sturdy?

Yes, we’ve designed our vinyl fences to have a flexural strength of 57.2MPa — which means the maximum stress or pressure a material can withstand before breaking.

Do vinyl fences get mildew or collect mold?

When subjected to extended damp weather, vinyl fences can collect mold and mildew. However, they can be easily cleaned with mild household detergent and water.

Can I paint my vinyl fencing?

Yes, you can! However, we don’t typically recommend this as the process can be quite tedious.

Vinyl has a smooth and non-porous surface, which can be difficult for the paint to stick to. To start the painting process, you will need to clean your fence with soapy water and let it dry completely. Then, scuff sand the surface and apply a coat of epoxy-based primer to help the paint adhere to the surface and make it more durable.

You’ll also need to find paint designed for vinyl use — usually acrylic-based pigments. Light paint colors are recommended as dark colors tend to absorb more heat, which can cause the paint to warp. Use a paint sprayer to get an even finish.

Please note that painting your vinyl fence will require more maintenance down the road. As paint is prone to chipping, flaking, warping and fading, you may have to repaint your fence regularly to preserve its appearance.

Do vinyl fences crack, chip, peel and rot?

Vinyl is more resistant to cracking and chipping than other fencing materials like wood. While durable, it can still be damaged by extreme temperature changes and severe impact. As it is made from PVC, vinyl also does not rot.

As for peeling, vinyl is more durable than paint as the color is integral to the material.

Understanding Vinyl Fencing

When it comes to installing a new vinyl fence, selecting the right contractor can make all the difference in the durability and appearance of your fence. A vinyl fence offers numerous benefits, including low maintenance, longevity, and good looks, but these can only be fully realized through quality installation. In this article, we'll guide you on how to choose the ideal contractor for your vinyl fencing project, focusing on key factors that ensure a quality installation and lasting results.

Before diving into the selection process, it’s important to understand why vinyl fencing is a popular choice among homeowners. Vinyl is resistant to decay, will not warp, split, or rot, and does not require painting or staining. Its durability makes it a cost-effective option over time, though initial installation costs might be higher compared to other materials. Knowing these facts can help you discuss your options more knowledgeably with potential contractors.

Now that you understand vinyl fencing a little better, here are some factors to consider when looking for a qualified fence contractor:

1. Experience and Specialization

The experience of a contractor in the specific field of vinyl fencing is crucial. You want to work with a company that specializes in vinyl rather than one that handles a myriad of materials but masters none. Experienced contractors will have a thorough understanding of the best practices in vinyl fence installation and will be able to anticipate and avoid common pitfalls.

2. Licensing and Insurance

Ensuring that your chosen contractor holds the necessary licenses and insurance to operate in your area is a crucial step in the selection process. Licensing confirms that the contractor adheres to stringent local building codes and regulations, demonstrating their commitment to professional standards and legal compliance. It also signifies that they have passed any required examinations and maintain the necessary qualifications to perform the work safely and effectively.

Insurance is equally important, as it protects you from liability in the event of accidents or damage to your property during the installation process. A reputable contractor should have both liability insurance and workers' compensation insurance. Liability insurance covers any damage to your property caused by the contractor during the installation, while workers' compensation insurance protects you from being liable for injuries that workers may sustain while on your property. Always ask to see proof of insurance and ensure that the policies are up to date.

Taking the time to verify these credentials can provide peace of mind and protect you from potential legal and financial issues. This diligence ensures that the contractor you choose is fully equipped to handle your project with professionalism and responsibility, safeguarding both your interests and their workforce.

3. Portfolio and References

Reviewing a contractor’s portfolio of previous projects is not just a step in the vetting process; it’s an opportunity to visualize what’s possible for your own space. A reputable contractor should be proud to showcase their craftsmanship and the range of designs they’ve implemented. This portfolio should give you a clear indication of their expertise in vinyl fencing, displaying a variety of styles from modern minimalistic to classic picket designs. By examining these examples, you can gauge the quality and creativity the contractor brings to the table, ensuring they can match or exceed your aesthetic expectations.

Additionally, a well-established contractor should readily provide references from past clients. These testimonials are invaluable, offering insight into the contractor’s reliability, communication skills, and overall customer satisfaction. Don’t hesitate to reach out to these references to ask specific questions about their experience, such as the contractor’s adherence to the project timeline, their responsiveness to inquiries, and their handling of any issues that arose during installation. This direct feedback from previous customers provides a more nuanced understanding of what working with the contractor might be like for your project, helping you make a well-informed decision.

4. Written Estimates and Contracts

Obtain detailed written estimates from several contractors to compare costs, materials, and the scope of work. This will not only help you budget accordingly but also give you a clear idea of what to expect. Ensure that the final agreement is outlined in a formal contract that includes timelines, payment schedules, and a detailed description of the project to protect both parties.

5. Communication and Customer Service

Effective communication stands as the cornerstone of every successful project, especially when it comes to working with contractors on installations or renovations. It’s imperative that the contractor not only possesses the technical skills required for the job but is also responsive and communicative. Being willing to answer questions, providing regular updates, and explaining the process in a way that's understandable are all key traits of a good communicator. This level of transparency helps in building trust and ensures that you are always kept in the loop regarding the progress of your project.

Moreover, excellent customer service is a direct reflection of a contractor's commitment to customer satisfaction. It's not just about being polite and courteous; it's about actively listening to the client's needs, understanding their concerns, and taking appropriate action to address them. A contractor who shows a willingness to go the extra mile to resolve any issues that arise during the installation process demonstrates a strong dedication to their work and respect for their clients. This commitment can significantly reduce stress and make the entire process more enjoyable and satisfying for the customer.

Furthermore, the ability to manage expectations through effective communication and superior customer service can set a contractor apart from the competition. By clearly outlining the project timeline, setting realistic deadlines, and being upfront about potential challenges, a contractor can help mitigate misunderstandings and prevent frustration. Regular check-ins and updates also contribute to a smoother workflow and can lead to a more successful outcome. Ultimately, the combination of strong communication skills and exceptional customer service not only leads to the successful completion of a project but also fosters long-lasting relationships between contractors and their clients.
